Harmonics Spectrum™ MediaPort™ 7000 Real-Time Video Encoder/Decoder

MediaPort™ 7000 I/O modules perform system-wide encoding and decoding for real-time ingest and playout of content on the Spectrum™ media server platform. The modules attach to Spectrum in manageable increments so that systems can be configured to meet exact requirements for channel count and video compression formats. When expansion is needed, additional MediaPort 7000 modules can be added while Spectrum remains up and running. MediaPorts for different media formats can be combined within a single Spectrum system, including support for both SD and HD at the same time. Every channel can be individually controlled by an automation system or a hardware controller.

Video, audio and timecode information is stored as data on the Spectrum. MediaPort 7000 accurately captures and replays all information contained in the video stream — including VBI and VANC. The modules support up to 16 channels of embedded audio, fully supporting even the most demanding multi-language broadcasting requirements.

The flexible MediaPort 7000 series offers a wide range of formats, channel counts and record/play capabilities to create Spectrum systems that support both current and future requirements. MediaPort 7100 and 7300 modules support DV and MPEG-2 SD and HD functionality, and MediaPort 7600 modules support DV, MPEG 2 and AVC-Intra. All modules support VC-3 decoding

Spectrum™ SYSTEM CONTROLLER MediaDirector 2252D

Spectrum™ MediaDirector 2252D system controllers are the core of Harmonic’s Spectrum media server system, actively managing the flow of data to and from Spectrum media I/O modules and MediaStore 5100 storage arrays. MediaDirector 2252D provides media I/O ports for up to 32 standard channels and the processing power to support a wide range of configurations and workflows. Its SAS interface provides redundant data paths between the MediaDirector and MediaStores. MediaDirector can be dedicated to both real-time and IP packet processing. Four MediaDirectors can be linked together for the scaling of channels or IP bandwidth — or both. MediaDirectors, individually or grouped, strictly manage overall system bandwidth to ensure uninterrupted real-time operations, even under heavy IP file-transfer loads. MediaDirector 2252D systems are designed with a real-time Linux OS for fast startup and secure, reliable operation. In the unlikely event of a drive failure in a connected MediaStore storage array, software RAID file system management enables efficient recovery of data. Additional Features and Functions System Expansion — A Spectrum system based on the MediaDirector 2252D can be expanded to a maximum of six MediaStore 5100 storage arrays, each containing 24 disk drives. Four MediaDirector 2252D units can be connected to the same file system via an Extended File Sharing (EFS) license. External Clock Synchronization — An optional LTC input on MediaDirector supports a TOD clock. Resiliency — The MediaDirector 2252D supports multiple diagnostic, monitoring and notification features for system resiliency and maximum up time, and may be configured to automatically rebuild protected MediaStore 5100 RAID sets in hot spare configurations

Omneon MediaStore
The Omneon MediaStore component of the Omneon SpectrumTM media server system provides scalable and reliable high performance disk-based shared storage for all content, accessible by any user.
RELIABLE
Omneon MediaStores are storage arrays containing up to 16 high-performance fibre channel disk drives. Since all of the disk subsystem management is provided in software by Omneon MediaDirectors, including all filesystem and RAID information, there is no hardware controller required, allowing the disk drives to be arranged in a BOD (Bunch Of Disks) configuration. Software based storage control and management enhances the system’s reliability by eliminating potential points of failure and enabling a higher degree of resiliency.
In addition, independent and redundant hot-swappable power supplies with automatic failover, hot-swappable disk drives, hot spares and integrated fans all combine to offer the highest level of failure protection. Speed and reliability are ensured by connecting MediaStore components to the overall server system (via the Omneon MediaDirector) with multiple high-performance Fibre Channel arbitrated loops. Support for multiple RAID sets and hot spares allow broadcasters to be confident that their assets are protected.
